ARE YOU A RABBIT PERSON?

Living with a house rabbit can be a wonderful experience for most people, but not for all. Before you bring a bunny into your household, we urge you to  make sure you have all the information to make an informed decision and that everyone in your family shares your desire for a house rabbit.

• Are you willing to devote at least two hours of "free time" a day to your rabbit?
• If you have children, are you willing to supervise them when they are with the rabbit, and be responsible for the rabbit's welfare yourself? (Bunny Magic does not recommend a rabbit as a pet for children under 8 years of age, and for older children only with very careful consideration of all that is involved!)
• Can you afford to buy a large cage/pen, food, bedding, litter and so on?
• Can you provide a companion for your rabbit, for example a guinea pig or another rabbit, or can you keep your rabbit company for a few hours a day?
• Are you willing to get to know your rabbit at floor level?
• Can you afford to pay for veterinary treatment when your rabbit is ill?
• Do you have at least 1 or 2 rooms where you don’t smoke, where the TV/hi-fi are not on constantly, and where there are no expensive carpets, pieces of furniture, and wallpaper to worry about?
• Are you willing to make some compromises in your furniture arrangements?
• Are you willing to follow ALL safety guidelines?
• Are you willing to do more cleaning than you would do without a rabbit?
• Are you willing to clean up litter-training accidents?
• Can you afford to board your rabbit or do you know someone who can look after her and exercise her when you go on holiday?
• Will you take your rabbit with you if you move?
• Do you understand that a rabbit will have its own individual personality and may not show affection in the same manner as you expect.  For example, many rabbits do not like being held, but are happy to lie beside you on the couch.
